What's a Quartz Composition?
Quartz Compositions are screensaver-like files that can include rich data sources and render them using all the features of Quartz Extreme and Core Image. The best example is the RSS screensaver that ships with Tiger, but that is only scratching the surface of what Quartz Composer can do.
Once you install Quartz Desktop be sure to visit QuartzCompositions.com, which contains plenty of compositions and extensive documentation on how to build your own.

NOTE: Editing and creating your own Quartz Compositions requires Quartz Composer, which comes with the OS X 10.4 Developer Tools.
To install, download and open the disk image above. Open the "Quartz Desktop" disk and copy the Quartz Desktop application to your Applications folder. Now run the program. Quartz Desktop prefrences, along with the composition's attributes, can be edited via the "Q" menu which will appear in your menubar.
